Wikis
Wikipedia - the best known Wiki on the Internet
Defines a Wiki as
A wiki is a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language.[1][2] Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. The collaborative encyclopaedia Wikipedia is one of the best-known wikis.[2] Wikis are used in business to provide intranets and Knowledge Management systems. Ward Cunningham, developer of the first wiki software, WikiWikiWeb, originally described it as "the simplest online database that could possibly work".
Retired but Active
...is a trio of websites with more than 200 pages between them designed and built on Wiki principles. It's visitors are much more than visitors on a normal website and can:
- Add their own comments to most of the pages - including this one - simply by scrolling to the bottom of the page, clicking on 'post new comment' and typing
- Join up as members so that they can:
- write blogs or contribute forum pages of their own
- use the chat-rooms for mature conversations over the web free of spotty teenagers
- post their pictures to the Retired and Active galleries
- and if they have an ongoing interest or hobby, set up their own mini-site within RbA
Modern software allows them to contribute fully without the need for expensive software of their own or special IT skills. Their own experience and enthusiasm is enough.
The 3 sites are:
- www.retiredandactive.org the social networking and wiki input site
- www.lifes3rdphase.com for those of us not ready to retire and
- www.retiredbutactive.com for those who want to get full value from a well-earned retirement
